Yours alone, by design
Every entry lives only on your phone, in on-device storage. No servers, no accounts, no telemetry, no cloud sync. We never see a word you write, because there is no place for it to go.

What makes it Vellum
A complete journal — and a reflective intelligence — with nothing to sign into and nothing to send away.
Every entry lives only on your phone, in on-device storage. No servers, no accounts, no telemetry, no cloud sync. We never see a word you write, because there is no place for it to go.
Gentle daily prompts, quiet entry summaries, mood trends, and recurring-theme chips are all computed on your device. A small language model reads your words the way a lamp reads a room, and your words never leave it.
Entries and attachments are AES-256 encrypted at rest, with the key sealed in your device's secure hardware and never exposed in plaintext. Open Vellum with your fingerprint, face, or passcode, and it re-locks itself when you step away.
A calm, caret-stable editor with curated mood glyphs, color tags, autosave, a live word count, and inline photos, video, and audio. The kind of page that disappears while you write.
On This Day resurfaces past entries softly, only when you pull for them, never a notification you didn't ask for. Export any entry or your whole journal as Markdown, JSON, or PDF, and back up encrypted to a destination you choose.
Privacy
Your journal lives on your phone, encrypted, and never leaves it. Entries, photos, audio, moods, tags, and AI reflections are stored solely on your device, with the encryption key sealed in secure hardware and never exposed in plaintext. The reflective AI runs fully offline: the model downloads once, then works without a connection forever, so your writing is never sent to the cloud. You own your data outright — export as Markdown, JSON, or PDF, and back up, passphrase-encrypted, only to a destination you choose. Online maps are off by default; when enabled, they send map coordinates alone, never your entries, moods, tags, or photos.
Questions
Yes, and not as a promise on a badge. There is no backend, no account, and no analytics, so your writing has nowhere to go. Entries and attachments are AES-256 encrypted on-device with the key held in secure hardware, and the app is gated behind your fingerprint, face, or passcode. We have no way to read your writing, even if we wanted to.
Completely. Writing, encryption, biometric lock, On This Day, the offline map, and the on-device AI all run with no connection. The reflective model downloads once, then works offline forever, so your words never touch the cloud.
No. Vellum is a single one-time unlock with restore, after a 10-entry free trial. No recurring charges, anywhere, ever, and your reminders never punish you with a streak that resets to zero.
